Essar joins over 1000 volunteers to clean Girgaon Chowpatty beach, Mumbai

Each year tons of garbage is dumped in the oceans, and in turn is washed up on various beaches. The garbage mainly constitutes plastic waste that takes between 20-500 years to decompose in the ocean, threatening our marine ecosystem.

To raise awareness about these issues, the Indian Coast Guard organised a Coastal Cleanup drive this International Coastal Cleanup Day (21 September, 2019) at the Girgaon Chowpatty beach, Mumbai.

Essar Ports and Essar Shipping actively supported the Indian Coast Guard for the drive. With a motto of Safe and Clean beaches, and armed with gloves and trash bags, empowered Essarites took to the beach on Saturday morning. They joined over a 1000 volunteers consisting of school students, NGO’s and other corporate volunteers at the beach, to actively participate in the cleanup. Essar has been associated with the cleanup drive for multiple years.

Marking the occasion, Capt. Ranjit Singh, Executive Director and CEO – Essar Shipping Ltd., spoke about the importance of the 3 R’s- Reduce, Reuse and Recycle – to ensure clean beaches and safe marine life. The cleanup drive was a huge success with the beach being restored to its full glory.
