The ‘Hope and Health’ initiative for adolescent girls at Saraswati Shishu Mandir, Nagwa

Rural India’s adolescent girls have the potential of being young change makers, who can help disadvantaged sections of our society break the shackles of poverty, inequality and gender discrimination.

Under Essar Foundation’s ‘Hope and Health’ initiative, we aim to help these girls achieve their potential and contribute to the nation’s development.

In a series of programmes, Essar Foundation invited Saraswati Shishu Mandir’s (Nagwa) Class IX girls to the Essar Power Mahan plant (in Madhya Pradesh), offering them an opportunity to interact with the department heads, and to know more about career opportunities with the plant.

The girls were taken on a plant tour which was followed by a menstrual health orientation session by the plant’s women employees. The session concluded with the distribution of sanitary napkins. Given the onset of the winters, each girl received a cardigan to take home.
