Gopalpur Port becomes Cape ready by berthing Essar Shipping’s MV Arun

Essar extends heartiest congratulations to Gopalpur Port, Odisha, for berthing MV Arun, an Essar Shipping Minicape that carried the largest parcel of limestone imported into India. The port received the vessel carrying 105,000 tonnes of limestone on 12 October 2019 from the Arabian Gulf.

With this, Gopalpur Port joins a select list of ports which can handle Capesize vessels. It had undertaken an expansion programme, which entailed the dredging of the channel, to enable it to receive large ships.

MV Arun is among the six Minicapes in the 12-vessel fleet of Essar Shipping. All six Minicapes of Essar are Green Passport holders. The Green Passport is an IHM (inventory of hazardous material) enlisting all potentially hazardous material a ship carries in its lifetime. Content like asbestos, harmful carbons, ozone-depleting substances, etc. are documented so that they can be disposed without harming the environment. The Essar Shipping minicapes are certified by ABS (American Bureau of Shipping), and will be maintained throughout the life of the vessel, with periodic updates.
