Essar Foundation bags award for agriculture and rural development initiatives

Essar Foundation’s project, “Holistic development of 12 villages of Coastal Saurastra region of Gujarat state” was declared 1st runner-up at The CSR Journal (TCSRJ) Excellence Awards 2017 in the Agriculture & Rural Development category. The award ceremony was held on 13 November 2017 in Trident, Mumbai. Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr Devendra Fadnavis was the Chief Guest, while Minister of Finance, Planning and Forest Departments, Government of Maharashtra, Mr Sudhir Mungantiwar, was a Special Guest.

Since 2016, the Essar Foundation project has been under implementation with a 10-year perspective plan. The aim is to ensure 100% water sufficiency that will contribute to the overall development of the villages. It enables improved agriculture and livestock, and livelihood opportunities for over 977 families, besides entrepreneurship development and women’s empowerment.

TCSRJ Excellence Awards 2017 awarded projects in various CSR categories, including education and skill training, environment, health and sanitation, women’s empowerment and child welfare, sports and animal welfare. It aims to inspire more and more corporates, NGOs and individuals to work towards the country’s uplift. The other winners in the Agriculture & Rural Development category were Reliance Power and Mahindra.
