Essar celebrates India’s Independence Day, with a pledge to work towards a #GreendependenceDay!

India’s 75th Independence Day is at a time when there is a dire need for the world to fight for its freedom from climate change and global warming. The Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change recently issued a report that warns the world of a ‘code red’ with regards global warming and other environment issues. Even our Hon’ble Prime Minister’s Independence Day speech focused on investing in and promoting green infrastructure.

Essar had chosen the theme of #GreendependenceDay, which resonates with the situation humanity has as at hand. There is a need to not just join hands to celebrate our Independence Day, but also transition & transform for a #GreendependenceDay!

Realising the criticality of the situation, Essar has already embarked on transitioning its existing businesses to green and investing in businesses that would bring about sector-transformations to clean energy. Our investment plans into hydrogen, green gases production & logistics, bio-fuels and renewables are clear indications of our commitment to sustainable business and a eco-friendly world. Take a look at the video we launched marking the occasion.

At Essar Oil and Gas Exploration and Production Ltd, the security, HR & admin teams put together an Independence Day event. Mr Vineet Sehgal, CHRO commenced the function with a welcome speech. The chief guest of the programme, Mr Santosh Chandra, CEO hoisted the National Flag while the audience joined in to sing the National Anthem. This was followed by a choreographed parade by the security guards.

These events were then followed by a cultural programme where employees and their children participated by reciting poems, singing songs and even displaying martial arts skills. A quiz competition was also conducted in which all attendees participated enthusiastically. The day culminated with the release of 101 tri-coloured balloons into the air by Mr & Mrs Chandra & all the children present, and a vote of thanks by Mr Dinesh Sharma, Production Head.

Essar Power Hazira Limited commenced Independence Day celebrations with the security team according the guard of honour upon Mr Nishith Dayal, CEO, who went on to hoist the National Flag. The business also organised a cultural programme with a soulful dance performance, a poetry session and a skit performed by the children of employees.

Cultural programmes at all sites were conducted keeping covid protocols in mind.

Apart from these, many Essar’s facilities brought in India’s 75th Independence Day through flag-hoisting. Here’s a quick snapshot of the function held at Essar House and Essar Ports Vizag Terminal.
