Essar Bulk Terminal Hazira Scales New Heights

Key Achievements during the year 2018-19

  • Expanded available berth infrastructure to 1450m length
  • Constructed passenger ferry terminal (Phase-1)
  • Commissioned new Gantry Ship Unloader with capacity of 2,500 TPH
  • Handled highest cargo with 24 MT in an annum since commissioning
  • Awarded Gujarat Star for being the Port of the Year for Health, Safety and Environment

As FY 2018-19 drew to a close, the Essar Bulk Terminal Limited (EBTL) Hazira has achieved a total cargo handling figure of 24 MT which is 9% higher than the previous year, and the highest ever since the terminal was commissioned. During the year EBTL handled more than 550 vessels, which is akin to berthing 45 vessels per month, marking a new benchmark for its performance. A significant portion of the growth witnessed by EBTL in FY19 has been fuelled by the 27% increase in third-party business.

FY19 also saw EBTL extend its berth length by 300m and add a new Gantry Ship Unloader with 2,500 TPH capacity (taking total available unloaders at EBTL Hazira to four). With that, the terminal has augmented cargo handling capacities and port infrastructure, paving the way for EBTL to develop as a multi-cargo handling terminal. Furthermore, EBTL has also demonstrated the highest standards in HSE and was awarded Gujarat Star for being the Port of the Year for Health, Safety and Environment.

The terminal’s HSE-orientation and excellent customer service would help attract new customers, and increase third-party business for next year. For the financial year 2019-20, the terminal is hence gearing to achieve a higher target of 30 MT of cargo handling, where a significant portion will be contributed by non-anchor customers.
